Believe it or not, I LOVE to host parties at my home and well, GO ALL OUT! Break out the glitter and turn on the glue gun because one of my guilty pleasures is crafting DIY projects for parties that I host.
With all of my wild and crazy ideas, I have to find ways to reign it in, so DIY party decor is one way that I have learned to use my resources and not break the bank. Don’t get me wrong, the supplies can add up, but once you have a good stock pile of craft supplies or leftover odds and ends from other events it does magically come together. Plus it’s fun!
Here are a few parties at 1426 that I have really enjoyed creating!
Cheers!

Groovy Baby Shower for one Cool Mama!
- Materials from Papersource, Hobby Lobby and Joanne’s.
- These were SO much fun and set the tone for a fun party! I’ll post later about how to DIY these invitations for the next baby shower you host.
- DIY invitations
- Rented farm table and folding chairs from the Aries Company.
- A corkboard covered with wrapping paper and decorated with leftover invitation supplies.
- Iron on patches for a groovy baby jacket.
- Hostesses and Mama.
- Dollar store handfans were perfect for the summer heat. Blue bottles, you may recognize from Budlight Platinum, LOL. Getting creative on a budget!
- We started the party late afternoon with the ladies. During that time we tie dyed onesies and had psychedelic readings. The party continued with the sunset and we invited the guys to join us and a live musician.
- Celebrating life cakes sunflower cupcakes.
- A tarot card reader for the ladies.
- Amazon string lights that we hung the night before to make sure it would glow beautifully for the party.
Leah’s Moana Party: The desserts from this one were super cute and of course fit the theme! And her LEAH in Moana characters is still hanging in her bedroom.
- DIY Moana letters made with cardboard cutouts, construction paper, tissue paper, paint and lots of glitter. The “H” was my favorite. I covered the bottom with real shells and painted over it in gold.
- Bringing back the old textbook covered in grocery bags trick, remember that from high school?! I covered the “A” in insideout Schnucks bags and then with a sharpie drew Maui’s tattoos.
- FABME is an awesome face painted and added to the fun for the kids!
- Heat of Tefiti cookies.
- Favors: gold fish swimming in blue m&m’s with organic gummy fishes.
- Festive banners hanging in the backyard and even a boat sail from my grandpa that we secured with scaffolding poles.
- Smash cake!
- Jello boats.
- And baby Moana 🙂
Conor’s 1st Birthday Party: Barn yard bash (candy in the haystack, super fun, but not recommended indoors LOL!)
- Tulips and eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s, you can’t beat the price!
- Smash Cake, farm animal cupcakes and tractor cookies by Celebrating Life Cakes
- Candy in the haystack. Yes, my husband told me three times “NO hay in the house!” Proceed with caution.
- Photos of our little one’s first year hanging on balloon strands. No helium, no problem, just glue dot them to the ceiling.
- The kids painted flower pots and took home a packet of seeds to plant for spring.
- Party favors: Dirt with crushed granola, chocolate cookies, m&m’s, gummy worms and dried fruit.
